Fabric Care & Maintenance Guide

Preserving the Heritage of Les Toiles du Soleil
Our fabrics are woven with tradition and designed for longevity. To maintain the vibrant Mediterranean colours and the integrity of the weave, please follow these care instructions.
-
1. Heritage Cotton Canvas (Indoor & Upholstery)
Authentic 100% woven cotton, crafted with "Grand Teint" dyeing for superior colour hold.
- The Weave: Our cloth is woven using "Retors" threads—two high-quality cotton threads rolled together—creating a durable, textured finish in both the weft and the warp.
- Washing: No pre-soaking is required. Machine wash at temperatures up to 60°C.
- Shrinkage: As this is a pure natural product, please allow for 10% shrinkage in length and 4% in width. We recommend accounting for this before fabrication.
- Drying & Ironing: This fabric is not suitable for tumble-drying. For the best finish, use a warm to hot iron while the cloth is slightly damp.
- Outdoor Caution: While vibrant, 100% cotton will fade if left continuously outdoors. To ensure the optimum life of the fabric, do not leave it in direct sunlight when not in use.
-
2. Sunbrella® Performance Canvas (All-Weather)
Technical fabric selected for its outstanding resistance to UV rays and environmental elements.
- Routine Maintenance: Built to be an all-weather fabric, it will keep its colours for years. Simply brush off any loose particles and hose down regularly. This prevents dirt accumulation where mold can grow.
- Deep Cleaning: For a thorough clean, use a sponge and mild soap in lukewarm water. Wash briskly, rinse with clear water, and allow the fabric to air dry.
- Stain Resistance: Featuring a soil-resistant finish, this fabric is incredibly resilient. For heavy staining, colours will not be washed out even when using diluted bleach.
-
3. Timber Frame Maintenance
Our handcrafted timber frames are a natural product designed to age gracefully alongside our textiles.
- Natural Weathering: Exposure to the elements will cause the timber to lighten and "silver" over time. This is a natural characteristic of quality timber.
- Nourishment: To maintain the original warm tone of the wood, we recommend applying a high-quality timber oil or wax once or twice a year.
- Hardware: Periodically ensure all bolts and dowels are secure to maintain the structural integrity of the frame.
